You Weren't Born to Be Average

Stop Settling for less than you deserve.

We’ve all been there. Choosing the smaller more in-reach goal because we’re afraid of dreaming “too” big. Telling ourselves, “I’ll aim higher when I’m older,” or “I’m just not ready yet.” But days, months, and even years pass by and we’re stuck in the exact same place, wondering what could’ve been if we aimed higher.

Message of the day:

The truth is, you’re capable of so much more than what you think. That big dream you’ve always had in the back of your mind is not as out of reach as you think. The problem is, you’ve never even really tried to chase after it. Maybe you’ve put in half effort a couple times here and there, but in reality, you know you could’ve done so much more.

1. You Have To Believe It’s Possible

For almost my whole life I dreamed of becoming a content creator. Inspired by the big names of the gaming world like Markiplier and PewDiePie I always dreamed of making an impact on the world like them. However, when it came to actually sitting down and making videos, I always had this self-doubt within me, and I never really “truly” believed that I could make it. Flash forward years of aspiring to be a content creator and I never really amounted to anything. It wasn’t until a big mindset shift that changed everything for me.

I remember coming across a random youtuber that was talking about how most people will never achieve big goals because they don’t believe it’s achievable. Why am I telling you this? Well the first step in achieving high goals is to first develop the belief that it is possible. A lot of people in todays world refrain from going after the big goals because they think it’s “out of reach.” However, that is far from the truth. If you can believe it and you have the courage to speak it, it will happen.

I tell you this because, it wasn’t until I truly believed it was possible that I made any progress. In my mind I believed having millions of followers was possible. People thought I was crazy, but I knew I could do it. Flash forward a couple months later and I achieved it. Over 1.5 million. It’s that initial belief of first setting that ambitious goal, and actually believing it was possible, that set me apart.

2. How Having High Goals Pushes You Further

Once you’ve developed that self belief in yourself and are set on taking the necessary actions towards your goals, something incredible will start to happen. What you once sought out as impossible, is now just inches away from becoming a reality.

Here’s some realizations I had in pursuit of my goals:

  • High goals force you to grow: When you aim for something big, you have to step beyond your comfort zone. You develop new skills, gain resilience, and prove to yourself that you’re capable of so much more.

  • They give you direction: Big Goals act like a compass in terms of navigating life, they help you prioritize what truly matters and you begin to filter out the unnecessary distractions.

  • They create momentum: Even small progress toward a big goal can create a huge positive feedback loop. It can give you a sense of pride and eventually lead to you feeling empowered. Each step forward towards your goals fuels your motivation to keep going.

3. Overcoming The Fear Of Failure

Now that you know how to build self-belief and confidence we must now learn how to overcome failures. I think the number one reason why most people don’t aim high is because they are afraid of failing. Nobody wants to be laughed at, mocked, or seen negatively because we keep failing. It’s scary- I get it. But your fear of failure is holding you back from achieving the life you know you want.

In order to get over this fear, you have to develop the idea that failure is not the end. It’s part of the process, and is necessary in order to learn. Every setback, every failure, and every down trend is a lesson. And with each lesson you grow more wiser and end up being closer and closer to your end goal.

In my experience, I had this big goal of hitting 10,000 followers. My fear of failure hindered me from posting my first video. I was afraid of what people would think and delayed it for so long. However, after procrastinating it for months I finally posted. And yes, I failed a lot. Video after video stuck in that 200 view range, for almost 7 months before finally seeing some success. I’m glad it turned out that way though, as it taught me everything I needed to know about the consistency of work, and the micro lessons and skills I needed in order to be in the position I am now. I learned that failure teaches us lessons success never will, and all those lessons ended up adding up to push me to who I am today.

If you’re afraid of failing, remember: you’re not failing-you’re learning. And that failure is a catalyst of growth.
