If you're having a bad day, read this.

For when things just don't seem to be going your way..

Have you ever had one of those days where everything feels off? You slept past your alarm, you spill your coffee, miss an important deadline, or maybe none of those things happened and your mood is just… off. We all have those days. And while it may be easy to beat ourselves up or try to “fix” the day, sometimes the best thing you can do is give yourself a little grace.

Message of the day:

1. Everyone Has Off Days

In today’s world, we live in the age of social media. We see everyone online glorifying productivity, consistency and hustle. But the truth is, no one is truly feeling this way 100% of the time. Even the most successful people in the world have days when they feel unmotivated. It can be difficult to believe however, because what we see on social media, only include people when they are at their absolute best. What we have to realize, is that the problem isn’t the bad day itself, but rather the pressure we put on ourselves to “live a perfect life.”

Bad days are part of life. You are meant to have ups and downs throughout your life. Just like like the weather, emotions change. Just because you feel off one day doesn’t mean tomorrow won’t feel completely different. You’re human. And beating yourself up for not being your best every single day will only make it worse.

2. Don’t make Temporary Feelings Permanent

One of the biggest traps we fall into on a bad day is believing that the way we feel in the moment is the ways things are. That cannot be further than the truth however, as feelings aren’t facts. Although you might feel like a failure, or that nothing is going your way, it doesn’t mean those things are true. Sometimes you have to go through the pain and the hardships in order to get to where you want to be.

Bad days can lie to you. They can exaggerate your fears and minimize your progress. That’s why especially on the bad days, it is so important to remind yourself that these are the days that shape you into who you want to become. Understand that you are making progress day in and day out whether you feel like it or not. And that even the worst of days will pass.

3. Take the Pressure Off Yourself

When you’re having a rough day, one of the best things you could do to get through it is giving yourself permission to take a break. Sometimes you need a break from the chaos of the world. Go for a walk, watch your favorite TV show, take a nap, do something that’ll help alleviate your feelings during your off day. Because sometimes we’re not our best and we simply just need a break from the world.

So take a step back and realize that rest is needed. And also understand that just because you have one off day doesn’t mean you lost all momentum. Pick it back up the next day when you’re more energized and ready to tackle on your problems. The funny thing is, after a rest day, more times than not, we feel more energized than ever and come back even stronger than before.

4. Practical Ways to Reset Your Day

Here are some practical ways you can reset your day when you feel off:

  • Identify your feelings. Simply understanding and identifying what’s going on can ease the mental tension. Don’t bottle up all your feelings, rather write them down or talk with someone you trust about them.

  • Do one small thing. Even on your worst days, there’s power in completing even the smallest of tasks. It build up momentum and reminds you that you’re still in control of your life.

  • Shift your environment. Go outside, clean your space, or change locations. A new setting can always spark a new perspective and new feelings.

  • Speak kindly to yourself. Would you talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself? Especially when we are having a bad day we tend to speak the most negatively about ourselves. Change the way you speak to yourself and understand that you’re doing better than you think.

Main Takeaways: Allow Yourself to Have an Off Day

Bad days don’t define you. They don’t erase your progress. And they’re not a reflection of your worth. They’re all apart of the process. You’re human. What matters the most is how you respond to your off days. Don’t respond with self hatred, but rather understanding. It’s all apart of life.

So if today’s been tough, take a breath. Be gentle with yourself. You’re allowed to have an off day- and you’re allowed to bounce back from it.

Better days are ahead. You’ve got this.

As always, I’m wishing you nothing but the best.

Sincerely,
